Feeding the Homeless!

The Hanger took its first mission trip! A group of 14 headed to Monroe Park in Richmond on Sunday morning to feed the homeless of the area. Students served over 250 people a hot breakfast and a sandwich for lunch. They were able to insert themselves into the lives of others less fortunate. What a treat to watch these students not only hand over food, but also a smile to an otherwise gloomy situation.

As we look into more service adventures, we encourage you to step outside of yourself into someone else's world. Are you being the arms of Jesus today?

Chick-fila Dodge Ball

What a great day! Sixteen students represented the Hanger in this year's annual dodge ball tournament in Richmond. Both the high school and middle school teams came out strong and played with great attitudes and integrity. Not only did we get many rounds of 6 on 6 competition in, we had a great time. See you there next year!

A special guest came to The Hanger Friday

night to layout a few makeup and beauty

tips. A free lance makeup artist by trade, Christy brought girls at the Hanger a few ideas on how to wear makeup for various occasions. We had the dramatic/night look, the daytime wearer, and the natural touch worn by some of our very own Essex students. As these girls were beautified on the outside, we pray God's blessing of confidence and elegance will show from the inside. Thanks Christy!

Great Weekend Hanger Crew! Friday night we had a small group to fellowship with. What a treat it is getting to know some of you on a more personal level. And not to mention that it was homecoming weekend! Way to go Essex football players and cheerleaders!

And off to the corn maze we went! Saturday, about 20 of us found ourselves in the middle of 5 acres of corn! We had to out-smart the other teams to get to victory first. CONGRADULATIONS to the GIRLS!!

Back at the Hanger, we had a packed night. Lots of students looking for a fun time and a place to hang out. Anger was the topic of the night. Question for you:

The ROC shows up!

Nope--Not the Wrestler! The Richmond Outreach Center brought the ROC in full force. Friday, Sept. 15th the Hanger was packed out. We had teen dance sensation "In 4 Life" and "Rock Steady" show up with their award winning routines. There was even a dance competition for a copy of "In 4 Life's" CD. Some of the Hanger crew got the nerve up to show their moves. It turned out to be an inspirational and entertaining night all around.

Those were the words of Pastor Beith who gave an awesome message straight from the Bible. We learned about how Noah and his family weren't annihilated from the earth because God found them to be righteous in His eyes. So the question is---Are you living a righteous life for the Lord? Do you want to be annihilated?

When God returns He will be coming with a refiner's fire. He will ask us about the past and present and the choices we've made.

Do you know whether you are going to Heaven or Hell?

Golf Tournament at Hobbs Hole a SUCCESS!

Who are you going to live for?

We have had a great summer getting to know area students more! There has been lots of dodgeball, basketball (and knock-out!), and pool being played. There has been even more food eaten!

The focus of the summer ended up being---"Who are you going to live for?" We were challenged with this question and asked to consider whether we are going to be pushed by the world to the slaughter house or lead by the Creator of the Universe.

What music are you listening to?
What pictures are on your phone?
What magazines do you have hidden?
Is money going to fill the void in your heart?

We have seen the response too. Thank you for a more respectful attitude. Thank you for walking away from fights. Thank you for treating your friends better. Thank you for thinking about the choices you are making. Not only do we need to decide whether we believe in God and his son Jesus, but we also need to live the part. It's all a part of the package.

If you are looking for hope and peace to take over your life--It's the only way.

On Friday, July 20th, we hosted a group from YWAM (Youth with a Mission). This particular group was from South Africa. They came with a drama presentation called "Broken Shackels." What a compelling way to not only remember the history and bondage of slavery, but also understand that the only way we can truely be set free in this life is to claim Jesus as our Lord and Savior! No matter the bondage: alcohol, drugs, depression, adultery...There is only one hope. Jesus. Thank your for bringing that message!

On Saturday, July 21st, "Extreme Youth Group" from Colonial Beach brought us a host of skits and drama to reinforce our need for a Savior. The topic was SIN, and all that it might include. Not only did the group show as some of the possibilities of what sin might look like, but also who can help us overcome them. Jesus is "The Champion!" Thank you for giving of your time for us.

And I leave you with the thoughts of the "Extreme Youth Group's" leader: Are you missing the bull's eye, God's best in your life, because of sin?
